1 Day Paragliding Workshop

Who should enroll for this orientation course?
Half day session is ideal as a gift to your loved one or something a couple can try together without digging deep into ones pocket. Full day is for someone who wants to give it a try, but unsure of spending time and money for the full course right away. Statistics also shows that less than 10 percent of the people who undergo P1 training continue with the sport. So about 90 percent people spend time and money doing P1 course to realize they do not want to continue paragliding.  Our customized workshop of half a day or a full day orientation course is an ideal solution to address this issue. If you immediately sign up for a P1 course this amount is adjusted against the P1 course fees.

What do you achieve in such short period?
You get to understand and experience the thrill of paragliding by spending less time, less money. If you are good with your motor skills you will manage a few tethered flights at a low height. This session is conducted on a beach. The soft sand at touchdown and absence of any obstacle reduces risk factors and hardship as against the rough terrain at the base of a hill. The calm evening sea breeze and overall ambience is a perfect setting for you to taste your first flight. Your sense of achievement and the experience of free flight captured against the backdrop of setting sun captured by a candid camera are just priceless. Apart from paragliding you also get to spend some time with power kites. The exposure to these sports, interaction with qualified instructors, the photographs for your face book page make this a value for money package.

What is the difference between half a day and a full day session?
Obvious is the time duration of the workshop and costs. Other than that during the full day we have a theory, video and a simulator session.  Your age, weight and physical health is criteria taken into consideration before enrollment. There is no time for a theory session in a half day session, you see a demo and straight away get strapped on to a harness for a hands on experience.  In both sessions we manage to get some pictures for you to share on face book. In both sessions you also get to spend some time with power kites.

FAQ’s
  • Who should do this introduction course? +

    Anyone who is not very sure if he wants to or could afford to spend time and money for a P1 course should do this course instead of taking a tandem joyride.
  • What is the basic physical and mental requirement? +

    Anyone who can climb five floors without a taking a break using staircase should be fine. Another test can be running for about 100 meters. Ideally your weight should be between 40 to 75 kgs. Preferred age group is between 14 to 30yrs for one day course.
  • How can we do training in one day when we talk about 3 day basic course? +

    This is an introductory course where flying is not guaranteed. We are qualified to teach by winching up Paragliders from ground level. We have locations close to the club house that are suitable for this kind of training so cost and time involved is reduced. There is an option of converting it to 3 days course.
  • What is the difference in hill based training and winch based training? +

    The basic ground training, flying and landing is same. What is different is the takeoff. In hill flying you climb up the mountain with 12 to 15 kgs of equipment to the takeoff point. In winch based flying you spread your wing on the ground, get connected to the winch rope and you are pulled up to desired height. Wind pattern at lower altitude (height) in open spaces are more predictable. In winching, altitude can be controlled unlike in case of hill training.Fear is less; safety is more as you start at ground level on a flat surface. You need more ground training for hill flying because the terrain and altitude is decided by nature. Risk factors are lesser in winch based training as height is controlled by the winch operator, he can abort the flight if pilot is not in command. Since the area of operation is open spaces, your takeoff and landing areas are chosen with no obstructions like trees, electric poles etc. In case of hill flying duration of flight is extended by staying closer to the ridge while in winching you try to find thermals to gain height. This does not affect beginners as in both
  • Why others do not teach by winching? +

    Lack of skill, investment in equipment and lack of open spaces are the main reason. I personally enjoy hill flying more than flights by winching. But for training I prefer winching as it has many advantages over hill based training. In both training methods experience of instructors plays an important role. At Space Apple we have been training people using winch based and hill flying method since 1998. We are also into paramotoring, parasailing, power kiting and aeromodelling which add up to our knowledge and skill.
